MASSEY COLLEGE OF CREATIVE ARTS  - The Smart Arts Claire Robinson - Massey COCA

Massey’s College of Creative Arts is ranked 2nd among the Asia-Pacific region’s design schools, and is in the world’s Top 100 Art and Design schools.

And they’re delivered by New Zealand’s leading researchers and practitioners.” Over 350 students graduate each year. In 2016, 93% were in full or part-time employment 6 months after study, 76% of them in the Wellington region.

HUMAN DYNAMO WORKSHOP  -  Super Models
Sue Dorrington & Rob Uivel - Human Dynamo Workshop

Futuristic motorbikes or a life-size model shark, are all in a day’s work for Human Dynamo Workshop. The company designs and makes all sorts of fantastic stuff for, movie-makers, museums and businesses needing something special.

“The workshop’s output is varied, sometimes unusual, and often confidential!” director Susan Dorrington (pictured with Co-Director Rob Uivel) says. “Historically our portfolios are strong in fabricating aircraft and vehicle interiors and marine specimens.”

Human Dynamo customized a Honda NM4 Vultus for the Ghost in the Shell movie under the watchful eye of Honda techs, fabricating five bikes for use on set. They’re currently working on special effects and a giant puppet for a blockbuster movie … oops, said too much.

COUCH KUMARAS  - New Kids on the BacklotCouch Kumaras

Starting out as a group of friends simply wanting to make short films for fun, Couch Kumaras got all serious in 2015 and now make short films for fun AND for profit.

“Most of what we do is in the marketing arena” director Finn O’Connor (pictured on right with fellow Head Kumara Connor Cameron) says. “It’s the creative nuancing we add that sets us apart – that, and combining high production values with ultra-fast turnaround!”

That approach has seen Couch Kumaras achieve the goals they set for 2016 – double the previous year’s earnings, get 20 new clients and pay cash for the latest Black Magic Ursa Mini (that’s a 4K camera to you and me).
