Making our Film Makers
The New Zealand Film School is one of the only industry-run film schools of its kind in New Zealand, where tutors come direct from the film industry to teach all there is to know about film.
The Film School has been operating in Wellington since 2000, after senior members of the film industry recognised the need for a film school which would be able to respond to industry training needs. It has been part of Whitireia since 2012.
The programme is hands-on and practical. Teaching is project-based using the digital video format. Students make a range of individual projects leading up to the focus of the year - the production of two short films made collectively by the whole crew .
24 students are accepted for each of the two annual intakes, with an overall pass rate of 93%, ED Sashi Meanger says. “Every year we get students to evaluate the programme, last year we scored 90% satisfaction, which is very pleasing and shows students have a high level engagement with us.”
