Dine & Dance Devine...

A hidden gem nestled between Cuba Street and Courtenay Place, El Barrio embodies the passion, food and culture of Latin America. 


“We’ve organised over 150 events since we opened in May 2019,” says Events and PR Manager Lucy O’Neill (pictured centre with Romi Vallejos, left and Pablo Quezada,, right). 


“Ranging from live band nights featuring Wellington’s finest musicians, DJ’s, including guests from out of town, cultural and language events, and other diverse activities.”


El Barrio means “The Neighbourhood” in Spanish – the name was decided through a local bar naming competition, which ended up with 219 name suggestions and 454 votes.

One team, one hour, one mission, Escape Mate is the first escape game provider in Wellington, delivering the ultimate puzzle-solving adventure experience, suitable for all generations to collaborate and enjoy together. 


“We pride ourselves on meaningful, stunning-looking, high-quality games and outstanding customer service,” says Founder Izabella Venter (pictured). “We do our best to immerse our customers from the moment they arrive by welcoming them as a team of special agents and offer free coffee, tea and a variety of snacks whilst we brief them in secret agent style.”


Spaceship is the first fully automated interactive puzzle game in Aotearoa.

FESTIVAL FOR THE FUTURE 2019

Festival for the Future is a showcase of what's possible – from world-class entrepreneurs and leaders of business and government to young people leading change in grassroots communities.

​

The 2019 event attracted 1,200+ attendees from New Zealand and around the world.

​

“The 2019 event was hands-down our best yet. From ‘life-changing’ to ‘world-class’ to ‘the best conference I’ve ever been to’ – the feedback has been humbling” says CEO and Founder Guy Ryan (pictured).

​

The team also launched The Impact Awards at #FFTF19 – celebrating young New Zealanders making a difference, with $20,000 awarded across four categories – Enterprise, Inclusion, Climate, Wellbeing.

GOLDEN SHEARS

Flippin' Rippin' Clippin'...
 

Golden Shears is an iconic sheep shearing event that has been run by volunteers for over 60 years.


“Over 450 people competed in 2020 over three and a half days in shearing, wool handling and pressing,” says Golden Shears President Sam Saunders (pictured with one of the founders and now Patron Laurie Keats MNZM).


“Masterton War Memorial Stadium, the venue, holds approximately 1200 spectators and was near capacity for both finals nights. This event brings in a large number of visitors each year to Masterton which is very advantageous for our local economy.”


2020  livestream reached a record 129,000.

Sweet Axe Throwing Co. has hit the bullseye, bringing a seriously entertaining edge to Wellington's corporate & team building space, and a new sport to Aotearoa. Fun is at the heart of this business, with date nights, themed nights, family tournaments, and a competitive league 100 strong.


“We believe we operate in a truly unique space, providing an inclusive, positive and responsible approach to our sessions,” says Owner/Head Axe-pert Sarah Hilyard (pictured with co-owner Lloyd Bombell). 


“We feel deeply that our customers should be treated equally and with respect and strive to have every customer leave our venue with expectations exceeded, feeling happier than when they walked in.”


At just two years old, they've taught more than 20,000 Kiwi's how to let go, have fun, and throw axes!
