Featherston Booktown Trust is a dynamic literary development organization, hosting the annual Karukatea Festival in May.
A major cultural event, this festival draws over 9,000 visitors with 39 events, 21 of which were sold out in 2024.
The Trust's mission is to inspire the diverse populations of Featherston, Wairarapa, and New Zealand to read, write, and engage in dialogue. "Our deep-rooted community spirit and engagement set us apart," says

The Young Readers Programme and Rural Readers Outreach Programme are pivotal, fostering a love of literature among 1,500 local children.
The festival's success significantly boosts the local economy, with accommodation and businesses benefiting from the influx of visitors.

PUKAHA NATIONAL WILDLIFE CENTRE

Beak Performance
Welcome to Pūkaha, a 942-hectare conservation reserve dedicated to forest restoration and captive breeding of New Zealand's endangered birds.
As well as an important conservation project, Pūkaha serves as a tourism destination and an environmental education center.
The recently opened Te Whare Wānanga Taiao o Manukura is an $8 million education and events facility featuring a fully carved marae. Pūkaha works in partnership with Mana Whenua Rangitāne o Wairarapa and Rangitāne of Tamaki Nui-ā-Rua to tell the stories of the past and to be the best kaitiaki possible for future generations.

Wellington Phoenix FC, New Zealand's sole professional football club, has had a record-breaking year.
The men's team achieved the most wins in club history and the highest league finish, while the women's team significantly improved their performance.
