- Finalist 2014 Vibrant Gold

Held every two years Capital E's National Arts Festival is the only national event that offers a broad range of high quality arts experiences exclusively for young people, and it's being doing that since 2003.

To date, the Festival has hosted over 200,000 visitors who have enjoyed 72 diverse productions from New Zealand as well as Australia, North America, Scotland and the Netherlands.

Capital E's director Stuart Grant says the basic premise of the Festival is to ignite and fuel the creative spark in children and young people. "Wellington is the engine room for Kiwi creative development and creative thinking is one of New Zealand's greatest assets.”

The last Festival, between 9 and 23 March 2013, achieved an attendance of over 50,000; and thanks to funding and support from regional businesses and the community, was made accessible and affordable for everyone. It's a significant event for the city and region requiring considerable planning to organise and deliver, made slightly more difficult by an earthquake just three months before opening. But the shows did indeed go on.

Just as well. Since 2007, each Festival has also attracted overseas producers from as far afield as Australia, Canada, Scotland and South-East Asia looking to purchase New Zealand productions, and we wouldn't want them to miss out.
