Greenbutton provides on demand Cloud computing services and products.

Greenbutton can turbocharge the computing capacity for any business instantly as required. 

Saving smaller businesses from large (sometimes risky, soon obsolete) infrastructure investment. Providing big businesses with instant scale.   

Scott cites Rythym and Hues which just won an Oscar for "Life of Pi"s visual effects. Sadly they filed for backruptcy 2 weeks beforehand. The huge investment in both people and plant is making the current model for these businesses unworkable. Cloud could be part of the answer. 

In contrast, a film being made currently in Mexico "Pepito" is being done entirely on cloud - apparently a world first.  


Scott is a Plimmerton boy who went to Wellington College. Then onto, what was Wellington Polytechnic to study "Data Processing" - yes punch cards. No Computer Science degrees back then.

Alway in computers he landed at Silicon Graphics in the late 90s servicing their largest client Weta. Scott then took up the job as Weta's CTO after Jon Labrie left. 

 When the Rings Trilogy wound down Weta had a wholelotta capacity, which became available for hire as the NZ Super Computer Centre. 

Scott saw Cloud on the horizon and set about helping others to harness this amazing new frontier faster and easier with his Greenbutton. 

GB clients are mainly in film, but they service all high-octane digital industries and projects.

1) Proudest Moment of 2012

Validation of our business through business partnerships with some big players such as Pixar, Microsoft, Dell and T-Systems (part of Deutsche Telekom). 

2) Biggest. Challenge. 

Building a global business that requires 24/7 support for both customers and sales team. If we are round the world, it's round the clock. Their Friday is our Saturday - weekends are shorter.

3) Key Objective/s for 2013

To continue the exponential growth of 2012.

Greenbutton's "Cloud Fabric" was launched at the Cloud Expo in San Francisco in November. It is now selling to customers primarily in the US. 

Scott hopes to end the next financial year with a staff of 40 (across US/NZ) and be building towards $10 million revenue across 100 plus major customers.

Then in 2014 they hope to head into Europe. 

4) Long Term Goals
To be a market leader in "cloud middleware" - linking the capacity on these monster Server Farms with consumers worldwide.

5) Main Issue/s facing your Industry 

The 2 Big Issues are:

Raising capital – "Fuelling growth is always a challenge, we have great NZ based investors but as we grow internationally we are likely to need US based investors and their networks."

Attracting good staff – "People are our greatest asset and we haven’t had too much trouble attracting great staff over the last 3 years, but there are some very cool companies like Xero, Trade me and Provoke that are also based in Wellington so it is a buyer's market.  Hopefully having cool customers such as NASA, Pixar and Tout doing really interesting things will continue to ensure that GreenButton is a fun and exciting place to work."
