QUAKEFLEX by Disaster Prepare
- Finalists 2014 Discovering Gold
Based in Tawa, Disaster Prepare Ltd is a multi-award winning earthquake safety business, servicing New Zealand and the Pacific. Trusted suppliers to GNS Science, Civil Defence and medical facilities, Disaster Prepare specialises in the often overlooked area of seismic safety for building contents.
As a member of the New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering and Natural Hazards Inc, Disaster Prepare has access the latest technical data and safety bulletins from the Christchurch and Japanese earthquakes, which it's applied to the development of the award winning QuakeFlex® seismic restraints.
QuakeFlex® flexes during a quake which dissipates some seismic energy to provide better protection. Its semi-rigid, quick release features deliver unrivalled versatility; from protecting electronic equipment in sterile laboratories to furnishings in offices and households.
And QuakeFlex® is a sustainable option. It's locally designed, tested and manufactured - and all components and packaging are recyclable.
Disaster Prepare's CEO Graham Nel started the company in 2011."I was underwhelmed at the quality of seismic restraints available at the time " he says. "The Christchurch earthquake highlighted their poor performance, so we came up with something better.”
QuakeFlex® has been enthusiastically received by the earthquake safety fraternity. GNS Science was the first commercial client, with installations at Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office, corporates and households. As expected, QuakeFlex® performed well during the recent Wellington shakes.
