SOCIAL CODE - Finalists 2014 Emerging Gold
Wellington start-up Social Code has developed an online patient engagement and behaviour change platform, for the prevention and management of chronic disease.
The web and mobile platform provides peer support, expert advice, motivation and behaviour change tools empowering people to take control of their own health.
In just over two years, Social Code has secured customers in NZ, US and Europe, established a US office, and was featured in US Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the Most Brilliant Companies of 2013. Social Code broke even at the end of year one thanks to lean methodology and some Kiwi ingenuity. Growth has continued to increase steadily, allowing the team to expand quicker than anticipated, already having secured their first European client and hired 3 new people in 2014.
"We put that down to our early identifications of who we are and who we want to be," says CEO and Founder, Siobhan Bulfin. "We cater to all verticals of the health ecosystem, we're patient-centred, plus we're mobile, cross-platform and accessible on any device. We treat our customers the way we’d like to be treated ourselves, and most importantly, we are not trying to be all things to everybody."
Social Code’s existing communities include; GoalPost - a 12 week smoking cessation program, MyViva - an engagement program for patients on the drug Humira, DrinkSmart - a screening and brief intervention tool for at-risk drinkers, and Kai Town - promoting healthy eating for kids under-5s, developed in partnership with the NZ Heart Foundation.
