Everyone's a Player

The New Zealand Festival is the country’s largest premier cultural event and a leading multi-arts event in Australasia, transforming Wellington into one of the world’s great Festival cities. The Festival welcomes artists - around 300 live acts - from around the globe and across New Zealand to Wellington every two years, igniting the city’s unique landscape, community and culture.

The Festival’s strategy is to make Wellington the stage – and everyone a player. The New Zealand Festival is recognised globally as New Zealand’s iconic cultural experience in Wellington.

Overall the 2014 New Zealand Festival saw increased impact in all areas, in particular a 32% increase in the number of Festival attendees and an 11% increase in tickets sold.

The region gets a good bang for its buck, Sue Patterson ED says. “From a $13 million investment the Festival generated a $70 million economic impact for Wellington City. We attract a huge arts-loving audience of over 260,000 every two years – many of those travelling in to the city from across New Zealand, and over 1000 from overseas. 2016 marks 30 years of the Festival in Wellington – so we’re preparing some special surprises to make it an extraordinary occasion for the capital – watch this space!”
