WISHBONE DESIGN STUDIO - Finalists 2014 Emerging Gold
Wishbone Design Studio is a small, family-owned company in Newtown designing a new generation of classic children’s products.
Since its launch in 2008 by co-owners Richard Latham and Jennifer McIver, Wishbone Design Studio has developed a truly international customer base, supplying wholesalers and retailers in 40 countries from 6 logistics hubs around the globe.
“Our design imperative is to create classics that are transformational, both in the way they’re designed and the effect they have on the user and their community,” says director Jennifer McIver. “We’re applying the same transformational design principles to our business. I’d say that’s how we’ve come this far, with just a handful of people and a focus on e-business for productivity. We’re comfortable operating outside of the norm.”
Wishbone has achieved a string of industry awards in the US, UK, Netherlands, Germany and New Zealand, including a TIME Magazine Design100 listing in 2009. Wishbone Wagon, a new release in 2013, is now sold at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Tokyo.
Wishbone Bike is the company’s flagship product. It is a convertible trike-to-bike for kids age 1 to 5 that grows with the child. Wishbone’s newest release is the Recycled Edition Wishbone Bike, made from 100% post-consumer recycled carpet. Wishbone Design Studio is a carboNZero certified organisation since 2011.
